Yuzu cheer on Japan’s Olympic Team in their Music Video for “Uta Yell”

Just last week we reported that Yuzu‘s latest song, “Uta Yell“, had been picked up as the CM track for insurance brand Nissay’s new Olympic-focused advertising campaign.  In further support of the track’s digital release, the duo have now chosen to make its full PV available on their Youtube channel.

Directed by Tomokazu Yamada, who is known for his work with both Sakanaction and Suiyoubi no Campanella, the music video features all 2018 of Yuzu’s ‘new members’ that were selected from among the Japanese public for this campaign.  This massive chorus follows Yuzu all around Yokohama’s Isezakicho, the video culminating in a sing-along held in a city square.

Ryokuoushoku Shakai flit between light and shadow in their Music Video for “Otona Gokko”

Up-and-coming rock band Ryokuoushoku Shakai will be releasing their first full-length album next month on March 14th.  This self-titled release will include several of the group’s already released tracks, like “Mata ne” and “Hajimari no Uta”, as well as a number of new songs.

The PV for one of these new tracks, titled “Otona Gokko”, was recently uploaded to the band’s Youtube channel.  Directed by DRAWING AND MANUAL’s Kyoutaro Hayashi, this video focuses on the contrast between light and shadow, with the group performing the song within a darkened room.

Kenshi Yonezu looks on solemnly in his Music Video for “Lemon”

Earlier in the month we reported that singer/songwriter Kenshi Yonezu would be releasing a new single titled “Lemon” on March 14th.  In support of this release, he has now uploaded the music video for its lead track to his Youtube channel.

Lemon’s PV was directed by Tomokazu Yamada, who has worked with popular acts like Sakanaction, Suiyoubi no Campanella, and Yuzu in the past.  The video itself is based around the theme of “requiem”, and as such was shot inside a church, wherein which a number of worshipers offer up Yonezu’s song in prayer.

Kobukuro announce the release of new Single “ONE TIMES ONE” in April

Earlier this year, folk/pop duo Kobukuro announced that they would be releasing a new single, their first in nearly a year, on April 11th.  Now that this date has drawn closer, the pair have chosen to unveil all of the details about this upcoming release.

Titled “ONE TIMES ONE”, the lead song has already been selected as the next CM track for Asahi‘s “Mogitate” brand, while B-side “Baton” is currently being used as the CM Song for Ono Pharmaceuticals.  The single’s Limited Edition will include a number of bonus tracks, all of them live recordings from the group’s recent concert tours, as well as a unique tattoo seal.

Mr.Children unveil Live Music Videos for “See-Saw Game ~Yuukan na Koi no Uta~”, “HANABI”, and “himawari”

Back in January we reported that pop-rock band Mr.Children would be releasing their latest Live DVD/Blu-ray on March 21st.  Now that the week has finally arrived, the group has chosen to upload several live performances from the release to their Youtube channel, the selected footage serving as both a preview and a means of promotion.

The songs chosen include the upbeat and cheerful “See-Saw Game ~Yuukan na Koi no Uta~”, their Code Blue theme “HANABI”, and the band’s most recent physical single – the rock ballad “himawari”.

Kobukuro take a stroll in the rain in their PV for “ONE TIMES ONE”

Last month we reported that folk/pop duo Kobukuro would be releasing their latest single, “ONE TIMES ONE“, on April 11th.  With this date fast approaching, the group have now chosen to upload the lead song’s music video to their label’s Youtube channel.

The PV for this bombastic, mid-tempo number finds the pair wandering a city at night, crossing paths with each other as the rain pours down from above.  Directed by Hidenobu Tanabe, the video is intended to express the musicality of the group’s members.

Yuzu collaborate with GReeeeN for their New Song “Equal”

This week folk/pop duo Yuzu released their new album “BIG YELL“.  In support of this release the pair have uploaded the music video for its lead track “Equal” to their Youtube channel.

“Equal” was the result of a collaboration between Yuzu and vocal group GReeeeN, who provided the initial melody which inspired the song.  Yuzu have worked with GReeeeN’s producer JIN in the past (on the tracks “Irotoridori” and “Tatta”), but this is the first time that the members of both groups have done so on their own.

Kuuki Koudan to release their first Album as a trio in May

Soft rock band Kuuki Koudan recently revealed that they will be releasing a brand new full-length album titled “Boku no Kokoro ni Machi ga Dekite” next month on May 23rd.  Coming nearly two years after the group’s previous set “Double”, this new record will be their first since downsizing to three members.

“Boku no Kokoro ni Machi ga Dekite” will include ten new songs from the band, who have eschewed their usual troupe of session musicians in favor of performing, mixing, and producing the album themselves.  In conjunction with this announcement, the group have also uploaded the short music video for the release’s closing track “Utsuroiyuku Machi de” to Space Shower’s Youtube channel.

Odotte Bakari no Kuni to release their Fifth Full-Length Album “Kimi no Tame ni Ikite Iku ne”

Psychedelic rock band Odotte Bakari no Kuni will be releasing their latest studio album this week on April 18th.  Their first full-length album in three years, “Kimi no Tame ni Ikite Iku ne” will include a whopping 15 new songs from the group, plus an additional bonus track for a total of 16.

In support of this upcoming release, the band have uploaded music videos for tracks “Melody” and “Cycling Road” to their label’s Youtube channel.  The former finds the group visiting the shore underneath a glittering technicolor sheen, while the latter focuses on the members riding bikes, scooters, and other modes of transportation along a winding road.

Megumi Mori to release New, Self-Produced Album “1985”

Over four years after the release of her previous album, singer/songwriter Megumi Mori has announced that she will be releasing a new record later this month on April 25th.  Titled “1985”, this new release will feature 14 songs, including a special self-remake of her indie era track “Soba ni”.  Of note, this also marks the first time that Mori has self-produced any of her material.

Ahead of the album’s release date, the short music video for the record’s lead track “Kakushinhan” has been uploaded to avex’s Youtube channel.  In addition, previews of each of the remaining album tracks can be found at Mori’s official website.

LAMP IN TERREN unveil Music Video for the funky “New Clothes”

Rock band LAMP IN TERREN recently announced that they will be going on a brief hiatus while singer Hiroshi Matsumoto undergoes vocal polyp surgery.  Before they go on break, however, the group have decided to release one last music video for their latest song – “New Clothes”.

This PV was directed by Yuuki Wakisaka and features Matsumoto wandering through an abandoned warehouse before he joins the rest of the band at the track’s conclusion.  The song itself is based on the English phrase “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, with the video meant to represent Matsumoto’s current conflict and the steps he went through to emotionally prepare himself.

Kenta Maeno wanders the world in his Music Video for “Ima no Jidai ga Ichiban Ii yo”

Back in early February, we reported that folk-rock singer Kenta Maeno would be releasing a brand new studio album titled “Sakura” on April 25th.  Now that this date has finally arrived, Maeno has published the PV for its lead track “Ima no Jidai ga Ichiban Ii yo” to his label’s Youtube channel.

Directed by Pennacky, this PV focuses on Maeno traveling between various picturesque locales and interacting with people from the current generation.  Of note, the version of the song included with this clip was both arranged and produced by cero’s Yu Arauchi, the lush instrumental emblematic of his own style.

Otogivanashi to release New Album “Nagame” in June

Alternative rock band Otogivanashi have revealed that they will be releasing a brand new studio album, their first since 2016’s “ISLAY”, on June 6th.  Titled “Nagame”, the record will include 11 songs from the band and will be co-produced by SALON MUSIC’s Jin Yoshida.

Well ahead of the album’s release date, the group have uploaded the music video for its lead track “Kirei” to their label’s Youtube channel.  Directed by Tsugumi Matsunaga, the PV stars model Ayaka Nakata and pairs the dreamy track with a series of washed out and over-saturated visuals.

cero unveil Music Video for “Sakana no Hone Tori no Hane”

Just last week we reported that jazz/hip-hop influenced trio cero would be releasing a new album titled “POLY LIFE MULTI SOUL” on May 16th.  Now the group has chosen to publish the music video for the release’s second track, “Sakana no Hone Tori no Hane” to their label’s Youtube channel.

Directed by labelmates VIDEOTAPEMUSIC, this PV finds cero and their support band performing the song while a pair of male and female couples dance between them.  These visuals are then randomly overlain with thermographic imagery in an attempt to further enhance the mysterious and oppressive atmosphere of the track.

Straightener publish Digest for their New Album “Future Soundtrack”

We previously reported that rock band Straightener will be releasing a new album titled “Future Soundtrack” later this month on May 23rd.  Straightener have described “Future Soundtrack” as a record which meshes their signature alt. rock sound with lush pop soundscapes, aiming to produce a work which straddles the boundaries of both genres.

Ahead of its release date, the group have now published a digest video which previews all of the songs which will be included on the album.  Of note, this trailer will also include a snippet from the band’s upcoming music video for “Time Leap”, a track which was included on their most recent single.

Daisuke Yamamori to release Self-Produced Mini-Album “Gin no Pistol”

Singer/songwriter Daisuke Yamamori released his latest mini-album, “Gin no Pistol”, this past week on May 9th.  In addition to handling the more typical songwriting duties, Yamamori also performed, mixed, mastered, and produced the entire release on his own.  Another mini-album, this one to focus more on the band-based side of his sound, will be coming early this winter.

“Gin no Pistol” includes five new tracks from Yamamori, among them the ‘painful’ love song “Full Moon no Kanojo” and a self-cover of “Can’t U See?”, a song which he originally wrote for idol group Kanjani8.  Animated music videos for both the title track and “Full Moon no Kanojo” have been uploaded to Yamamori’s Youtube channel.

Lamp reveal artistic yet nostalgic PVs for “Shasou” and “1998”

Earlier in the year we reported that jazz/lounge band Lamp would be releasing their latest record on vinyl at the end of April.  This week the trio have decided to release this album, “Kanojo no Tokei“, on both CD and digital download platforms so that it can reach a wider audience.

In support of this release, the group have uploaded music videos for album tracks “Shasou” and “1998” to their label’s Youtube channel.  Both videos feature a washed-out aesthetic which was likewise used in their PV for “Fantasy”, with Shasou’s focusing on the creative process while 1998’s centers around a series of period-appropriate images.

Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi reveals Music Video for his latest Digital Single “Don’t Think Twice”

Respected singer/songwriter Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi announced the surprise release of a digital single this week on May 16th.  Titled “Don’t Think Twice ~Sakura Namiki no Omokage ni Yurete~”, this song marks the first new material from Nagabuchi since the release of his album “BLACK TRAIN” last summer.

In conjunction with this announcement, he has also published the full PV for “Don’t Think Twice” to his Youtube channel.  This video finds Nagabuchi looking suave in his studio and performing the track beneath a monochrome visual filter.

King & Prince officially debuts with “Cinderella Girl”

King & Prince finally makes their highly anticipated debut on May 23. The new Johnny’s group officially debuts with the single “Cinderella Girl”, an uptempo love song that serves as the theme song for the drama “Hana Nochi Hare”. Within just 2 days of release, the single has sold over 400K copies, already making “Cinderella Girl” one of the highest debut from Johnny & Associates.

King & Prince are your prince charming in their music video for “Cinderella Girl”. Recently, Universal Music Japan has also lifted the region restriction for King & Prince’s music video. Asako Toki to collaborate with Ohashi Trio on her New Album “SAFARI”

Nearly a year-and-a-half after the release of her previous album, singer Asako Toki has announced that she will be releasing a brand new record on May 30th.  Titled “SAFARI”, this new album sees Asako moving in a more electronic direction, supported by familiar collaborator Tomi Yo and featuring guest vocals from Ohashi Trio on the song “CAN’T STOP”.

Ahead of its release, the music video for the album’s opening track “Black Savanna” has been uploaded to her label’s Youtube channel.  The dark, ambient song is paired with a fitting series of visuals, the PV primarily focusing on scenes of construction sites and other, similar aspects of modern urban life.  In addition, a digest previewing the remainder of the record’s ten tracks has also been made available on avex’s channel.
